About Tom
Tom Armstrong is a doctoral candidate at UMBC working with Tim Oates in the CoRaL Lab on machine learning, pattern recognition, and grammatical inference. He strongly disagrees with UMBC’s failure to continue American Sign Language (ASL) education. Tom will graduate from the University of Maryland Graduate School, Baltimore in May of 2008. He is a fan of Dave Coulier. Occasionally, he will post items of interest and update his academic lineage.
Prior to UMBC, Tom received a B.S. in Computer Science and a B.S. in Mathematics and Linguistics at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 2002. He was a member of the Center for Computer-Based Instructional Technology (now the Center for Educational Software Development) and the Experimental Knowledge Systems Laboratory in the computer science department and the Language Acquisition Lab in the linguistics department.
